Vaishali Rajapurkar at Malaka Spice on this March 1st to 31st

Artist Vaishali Rajapurkar is a BA Psychology (Hons) and holds a Diploma in Fashion Designing and Fine Art. She has exhibited in group and solo shows in London, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Goa and Pune. She has participated in demonstrations and won several awards for her work.

For her painting has been an integral part of the self. This passion for painting inspired her to seek out various esteemed artists in Pune and she had been training under them for the past 30 years. She personally feels that to be a proficient and a versatile artist, knowledge and practice of all mediums, styles, techniques are very necessary.

Her knowledge of psychology and fashion designing have enhanced her understanding of the art. For her a painting has to have a deeper, social meaning while being pleasant to look at. Her reviving the fresco series; old meets new, is a subtle way of reminding the audience of our rich cultural heritage and the need to preserve it.

Her abstracts The Deserted village is the result of the alarming state of our villages because of the mass exodus for the cities, and its effect on our socio-economic state. Her paintings have a lot of different textures as she experiments by using various techniques and tools.

For the artist painting is as necessary as breathing and her happiest moments are in front of an easel, amidst the paints and canvases.
