India Art Festival, a Mega Art Fair starts on 19 January 2017 at Thyagaraj Stadium, New Delhi

India Art Festival, a mega art fair is presenting its second edition from 19 to 22 January 2017 at Thyagaraj Stadium, INA Colony, New Delhi. In this edition of India Art Festival, 35 art galleries along with 400 artists from six countries and 25 different cities are participating from the world over in specially designed 100 booths.

Last year, during its debut edition in Delhi, India Art Festival(IAF) has made its mission statement that the purpose behind starting Delhi edition of India art festival after seven successful editions in Mumbai is to fulfill our social responsibility of “democratizing the very art presentation, art viewing and buying process”. IAF director, Rajendra says “monopoly chokes the market and deprives the large section of artists’ community from art fair circuit; we have very good growth potential and space. What we need is the expansion of choices presented to art buyers and collectors by showing them diverse visual art products from the rural parts of India along with metro-bred artists’. India Art Festival exactly aspires to do it. IAF give opportunity to young talented urban and rural artists to get discovered along with master artists; IAF is a talent hunt not only for art buyers but for art gallerists too as in the last eight years, many of IAF discovered artists are now inducted in to gallery system and became part mainstream art circuit at large”.

In this four days art festival, artists from rural and urban area along with art galleries participate in a large number with all kinds of artworks including paintings, sculptures, photographs, original prints, serigraphs and installations; India Art Festival the only multi-city art fair in India that host annual editions in Mumbai and New Delhi every year, facilitate artists to create a network with the art galleries and help art galleries to build a bond with the art dealers, art collectors and art buyers. Every year, India Art Festival hosts major and mid-level art galleries with thousands of refreshing and original artworks in oils, acrylics and water colour from the array of their associate artists. In the India art festival, visitors see the unbridled of form refreshing creativity to satiate almost all kinds of dainty visual tastes – like seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, rural and urban scenarios, nudes, figurative, still-lifes, semi-abstracts & abstracts, highly realistic, religious & spiritual artworks – under one roof!

Since its first edition, India Art Festival successfully initiated the process of democratization of art market at two levels – first by mingling less-articulate rural artists with the metro-bred highly articulate urban artists and second by bringing out the very ‘art viewing & buying’ process from confines of conventional art spaces. After the resounding success of such unbiased presentation of art in Mumbai for the last seven years, the art galleries and artists from northern states made IAF to host ‘India Art Festival’ at New Delhi last year and Art Festival continues this journey in this troubled times of demonetization. IAF is the unpretentious platform for artists where they can present their art without the fear of facing disrespectful treatment.

It has been widely known fact that rural artists’ economic plight and three/four years waiting list at public art galleries makes it difficult for them to exhibit in metro-cities. India art festival made these artists to reach out to metro art buyers and have successfully expanded the periphery of art patronage by mounting grand art festivals.

Art Festival’s Managing Director Rajendra adds “the success of our eight editions of India Art Festival at Mumbai and New Delhi is the result of huge number of visitors including art buyers, artists, art connoisseurs and art collectors, who visited each and every edition of India Art Festival. The visitors don’t feel intimidated in the simple yet refreshing ambiance of India Art Festival, as we have kept visual art presentation away from undue glamour, shine and hoopla”.

In the second edition of India Art Festival at New Delhi, 100 independent artists and 35 art galleries along with their 300 associate artists from all major cities are participating in 100 booths at Thyagaraj Stadium, New Delhi from 19 to 22 January 2017. The total 400 artists’ and more than 3000 artworks will be on the visual arts platter of IAF visitors this year at Thyagaraj stadium.

India Art Festival is an initiative of Kalavishkar, an organization that endeavours to democratise Indian Art in all possible ways through the initiatives such as India Art Festival and Indian Contemporary Art Journal, its in-house quarterly magazine on visual arts published since 2009 by Kalavishkar.

In the last seven editions at Mumbai and New Delhi, India Art Festival attracted little over two hundred thousand visitors.
